Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (April 30) – FDU-Florham women's lacrosse junior
Lizzy Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ) broke four program records this afternoon as the Devils finished the regular season with a 24-3 victory at King's College (Pa.).
FDU-Florham improved to 15-2 overall and for the second straight season went and unbeaten 8-0 in MAC Freedom play, while King's fell to 3-12 overall and 2-6 in the league to end its season.
Escudero individually broke the program records for points in a game (16), assists in a game (11), points in a season (127) and assists in a season (69), while
Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) broke the program record for draw controls in a season (152) today. In addition,
Kylee Garcia (Branchburg, NJ) registered the 200th point of her career with five goals and one assist this afternoon.
Escudero's 16 points and 11 assists were not only the most in a single game for the Devils but they are the second most in a game across the entire country in all three NCAA Division's this spring.
Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ) added three goals and two assist for five points to go along with four ground balls and five draw controls, while five other student-athletes score two goals in the victory including
Paige Frye (Palmyra, Pa.),
Melanie Peck (Mendham, NJ),
Brynn Levins (Haddon Township, NJ), Ross and
Katelyn Cerrato (Mohegan Lake, NY).
FDU scored 16 of the first 17 goals in today's game and led by a 17-2 margin at halftime. FDU went on to outscore King's 7-1 in the second half en route to the 24-3 victory. In 17 regular season games this year, FDU has scored 20 or more goals in 11 contests.
As a team, FDU out shot King's by a 33-10 margin and went 11-for-11 in clearing attempts. The Devils also held advantages in ground balls (21-13) and draw controls (21-8).
Maddy Apap (Montgomery, NY) got the start and made three saves in the victory as she improved to 5-0 in net this year for the Devils.
FDU will await the winner of the #4 Lycoming vs. #5 DeSales play in game and will host the MAC Freedom Semifinals on Wednesday, May 4 at 4:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
