Madison, NJ (May 4) – The top-seeded FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team rolled past fourth-seeded Lycoming College, 23-3, in the semifinal round of the 2022 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Championship Tournament this afternoon on Robert T. Shields Field.
With the win, the Devils advanced to the MAC Freedom Championship for the 12th time in program history and will face either second-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology or third-seeded Misericordia University on Saturday, May 7 at 1:00 pm for an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.
FDU-Florham, which was ranked seventh in this week's NCAA Division III Region IV rankings, improved to 16-2 on the year, while Lycoming saw its season come to a close with a record of 10-9.
As a team, the Devils tied the single game program record for points with 39 today and broke the single game record for assists with 16 this afternoon.
FDU sophomore
Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ) led the Devils with seven goals in addition to two assists, three caused turnovers, three ground balls and four draw controls. Junior
Lizzy Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ) posted four goals and ten assists, while
Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) registered 15 draw controls.
Junior
Kylee Garcia (Branchburg, NJ) added five goals and three assists for eight points, while junior
Emma Ciquera (Putnam County, Conn.) tallied a hat trick with a trio of goals.
The Devils went ahead early 3-0 on two goals from Walsh and one from Ciquera. After Erika Boyer scored Lycoming's lone goal of the first half, FDU ripped off a run of 17 straight goals for a 20-1 advantage midway through the third. Garcia, Walsh and
Katelyn Cerrato (Mohegan Lake, NY) tallied the final three goals for the Devils en route to the 23-3 win.
As a team, FDU out shot Lycoming, 35-10, went 12-for-13 on clearing attempts, won 22-of-29 draw controls and held a 19-10 margin in ground balls.
In net, first-year
Jamie Kubach (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior
Maddy Apap (Montgomery, NY) split time in net for the Devils and both made two saves over 30 minutes of play. Zoe Stauffer made eight saves for Lycoming in a complete game effort.
FDU will welcome either Stevens or Misericordia to Madison on Saturday, May 7 for the MAC Freedom title game at 1:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
