Fabin Lifts Men's Lacrosse to 9-8 OT Win Over King's on Senior Day

Madison, NJ (April 30) – A goal by Brenden Fabin (Randolph, NJ) with 1:17 to play in the first overtime session lifted the FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 victory over King's College (Pa.) in the 2022 season finale for the Devils.

Prior to the game, the Devils honored their senior class including MacGyver Hay (Mays Landing, NJ), Dan Schlupp (Holland, Pa.), Carson Hopkins (Falls Church, Va.), Cliff Hurley (Lacey, NJ) and Drew Gallagher (Shamong, NJ).

Hay also broke the FDU single season record for caused turnovers as he finished the year with 47 surpassing the old mark of 44 that was set by Dan Decker during the 2016 campaign.

FDU jumped out to a 3-0 lead on one goal from Brian Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.) and two goals from Michael Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.). Early in the second, King's answered with five consecutive goals, four of which came from Ben Spencer.

Both teams traded goals early in the third before M. Stewart and Lucas Berghahn (Poughkeepsie, NY) knotted the game up at 6-6.

In the fourth, Gabe Vansuch and Brendan Gambino gave King's an 8-6 lead with just two minutes to play in regulation. Fabin, however, answered for the Devils and registered back to back goals to send the game into overtime at 8-8.

FDU took four shots early in the overtime session but turned the ball over on a possession clock violation. King's cleared the ball and immediately turned it over back to the Devils. Fabin lined up for a shot and buried his fourth goal of the day to lift the Devils to the 9-8 victory.

Schlupp made six saves in net for the Devils to earn his third win of the year, while Matt Wall took the loss on 14 saves for the visitors.

As a team, FDU out shot King's by a 46-24 and held a 41-35 advantage in ground balls. The Devils also won 12 of 21 face-offs and went 27-for-30 on the clear.
