Baseball Falls Twice To Stevens on Senior Day

Madison, NJ (April 30) – The FDU-Florham baseball team fell twice to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in its final regular season doubleheader of the 2022 season. Stevens took game one, 5-3, and game two, 8-1.
 
After the doubleheader, FDU saw its record dip to 19-19, while Stevens improved to 28-12 on the year. Prior to the start of today's game, the Devils honored their senior class including DJ Gonnelli (Berkeley Heights, NJ), Matt Nodoro (Morristown, NJ), Michael Dell'Unto (Rockville Centre, NY), Tommy Moore (Mansfield, NJ), Chase Glasspoole (Pine Bush, NY), Joseph Kastner (Springfield, NJ) and Christian Capuano (Vernon, NJ).
 
Game One: Stevens 5, FDU 3
 
Stevens jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings on a two run single by Sutton Dole in the second and an RBI single by Hunter Silvernail in the third. FDU answered with three of its own in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.
 
After Nodoro led off the inning with a triple, Tyler McCulloch (Berkeley Heights, NJ) brought him in on a double and then McCulloch scored on an error. An RBI double by Dylan Hode (Manalapan, NJ) evened the score at 3-3.

Stevens immediately answered with two in the next half inning on an error and an RBI triple. The Ducks pitching staff didn't allow the Devils to score over the final three innings as the visitors held on for the 5-3 win.
 
Kastner (5-2) took the loss on five innings, five hits, five runs (three earned) and three strikeouts, while Mark DeCicco earned the win on four innings, four hits, three runs (one earned) and two punch outs.
 
Game Two: Stevens 8, FDU 1
 
Stevens once again jumped out in front first in the night cap as the Ducks took a 4-0 lead through three innings. The Ducks used an RBI double and a two run single in the second and an RBI single in the third for their lead.
 
FDU plated its only run of game two on an RBI single to right by Sean Wodell (Freehold, NJ). Stevens put together four additional runs over the final two innings to win the nightcap by an 8-1 final.
 
Anthony Molina (Bound Brook, NJ) took the loss (1-3) on five innings, eight hits, four runs (three earned) and eight strikeouts. Matt Villapiano earned the win (1-0) on four innings, four hits, one earned run and two strikeouts.
 
FDU will await word of a bid to the ECAC Tournament, which will be revealed on Monday, May 16.
