Madison, NJ (May 3) – The FDU-Florham baseball team wrapped its 2022 regular season with a 3-1 win over crosstown rival Saint Elizabeth University this afternoon at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark.
The victory gave FDU its 20th win of the season as the Devils reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since the 2014 season and for the 14th time in program history. FDU is now 20-19 on the season and will await word of a berth to the ECAC Tournament in a couple of weeks.
After a scoreless top of the first, the Devils scored once in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by
Matt Nodoro (Morristown, NJ) that plated
DJ Gonnelli (Berkeley Heights, NJ), who reached on walk.
The Devils added one in the second on an RBI single by Gonnelli and one in third on a leadoff solo home run by
Tyler McCulloch (Berkeley Heights, NJ).
FDU's pitching staff shut Saint Elizabeth down as the four pitchers allowed just one run in nine innings. Starter
Christian Capuano (Vernon, NJ) pitched three innings, earned the win (5-4), allowed two hits, one earned run and struck out six.
Joseph Kastner (Springfield, NJ) pitched the next three frames and scattered just three hits before
Jonathan Rodenhaver (Port Republic, Md.) pitched two innings and before
Colby Craig (Chester, NJ) earned his tenth save of the spring.
