Women's Lacrosse Edged By Roanoke, 16-15

Madison, NJ (April 3) – The FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team was edged by Roanoke College, 16-15, in non-conference action this afternoon on Robert T. Shields Field.

FDU-Florham (7-1) led by a 15-14 score with five minutes remaining in regulation, but Roanoke (6-3) scored twice down the stretch to secure the road win.

The Devils received five goals from Kylee Garcia (Branchburg, NJ), four goals, two caused turnovers and eight draw controls from Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ) and a hat trick from Melanie Peck (Mendham, NJ) in the effort. Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) once again led the way with nine draw controls this afternoon.
 
Roanoke scored the first four goals of the game before Walsh and Garcia scored back-to-back goals making the score 4-2 after one quarter. The Devils outscored the Maroons, 6-3, in the second quarter and posted three goals on the man advantage for a slim 8-7 edge at the break.

FDU keeper Jamie Kubach (Philadelphia, Pa.), who tied a career high with 12 saves this afternoon, kept the Maroons off the board multiple times down the stretch including three stops in the second half on free position shots.

Roanoke held a 14-12 lead in the fourth, but FDU took advantage of a locked in yellow card and scored three times playing a man up in a span of 1:41. Walsh scored twice, while Jenna Ranney (Forest Hill, Md.) began the run with her first goal of the day.
 
Riley Chase scored the game tying goal for Roanoke and Sydney Harrison scored the game winner with 34 seconds to play to account for the 16-15 final.
 
Roanoke held a 36-25 edge in shots and a 16-14 differential in ground balls. FDU went 12-for-18 on the clear was posted a 20-15 advantage in draw controls. The Devils also scored six times on free position attempts, the third time in as many games that FDU has posted at least six free position goals.

Kubach made 12 saves in net for the Devils, while Kyleigh Chickering stopped the ball five times for Roanoke.
 
The Devils will return to MAC Freedom play on Wednesday with a 4:30 pm contest at DeSales University.
