Glenside, Pa. (April 22) – The FDU-Florham baseball team dropped a 9-2 decision at #6/#9 Arcadia University to open a three game Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) series this afternoon.
FDU-Florham now sits at 17-15 overall and 7-9 in MAC Freedom play, while the nationally-ranked Knights pushed their record to 30-4 on the season and 15-1 in league games.
The Devils took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a dropped fly ball by the right fielder.
Matt Nodoro (Morristown, NJ) began the game with a double and then with two outs
Tyler McCulloch (Berkeley Heights, NJ) earned a walk. A ball put in play to right field by
Jimmy Finnerty (Augusta, NJ) that dropped out of the glove plated both runners for the Devils.
Arcadia answered with one in the bottom of the first and then added three in the second for a 4-2 edge. The Knights plated their runs on a sac fly, a two run double and a bunt.
The hosts put the game away in the bottom of the sixth with four additional runs – one on a sacrifice bunt, one a sacrifice fly, one on an RBI double and one on an RBI single.
Arcadia's pitching duo of Hunter Sibley (6-1) and Carson Denham held FDU to just five hits and two runs and also struck out ten of 37 batters they faced on the day.
Anthony Molina (Bound Brook, NJ) took the loss (1-2) on 5.2 innings, seven hits, eight runs (five earned), one walk and two strikeouts.
Both teams will travel to Madison for a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 pm at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark.
