Madison, NJ (April 2) – Three days after breaking the single game NCAA Division III record for draw controls, FDU-Florham first-year
Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) broke the single game draw controls program record with 19 this afternoon in a 21-4 win over Wilkes in the MAC Freedom opener for the Devils on Elizabeth Ruth Hennessy Field.
Ross and the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team, now 7-1 overall and 1-0 in MAC Freedom play, played a close opening quarter with the Colonels (3-6, 1-1 MAC Freedom) and led by just one, 4-3.
Both teams traded goals to open the second quarter, but from that point on the Devils scored 16 consecutive goals to secure the conference win by a 21-4 final. FDU scored five goals in the second and fourth quarters as well as seven in the third. Individually,
Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ),
Kylee Garcia (Branchburg, NJ) and
Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) all recorded hat trick in the win.

Ross registered 19 draw controls and as a team, the Devils won 24 of 29 draw controls on the day. Defensively,
Maddy Apap (Montgomery, NY) and
Hannah Bhend (Landing, NJ) led FDU with three ground balls apiece, while
Melanie Peck (Mendham, NJ) posted a team-high three caused turnovers.

Ross' new single game record of 19 draw controls broke the old mark of 18 set by Walsh last season against Delaware Valley University.
In net, Apap got the start and picked up her first victory of the season for the Devils, while Ashley Coughlin made nine stops for Wilkes in 60 minutes in cage.
As a team, FDU out shot Wilkes, 41-7, and was successful on 15-of-17 clears. The Devils also made 8-of-12 free position attempts in the victory.
FDU has a quick turnaround and will host Roanoke College tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
