Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (April 2) – The FDU-Florham baseball team fell twice to Wilkes University in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon. The Colonels walked off in the opener, 4-3, and completed the sweep with a 7-6 win in the nightcap.
FDU-Florham is now 15-7 on the season and 6-3 in conference play, while Wilkes improved to 13-8 overall and 2-7 in league games.
In game two, FDU senior
Tommy Moore (Mansfield, NJ) launched his ninth homer of the season to tie his own single season program record from last year. Moore's ninth home run moves him into a tie for the third most in Division III this year.
Game One: Wilkes 4, FDU 3
The Devils took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth thanks to a two out, bases clearing double by
Mark Geist (Middlesex, NJ). Moore began the frame with a walk before
Vincent Ferrigno (Marlboro, NJ) and
Jimmy Finnerty (Augusta, NJ) earned back-to-back walks to lead the bases for Geist. Wilkes, however, answered with two in the bottom of the inning on a pair of sacrifice flies.
The hosts scored once in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double and walked it off in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Zack Luksic.
Geist ended the day with a 3-for-3 day at the plate for the Devils. FDU starter
Christian Capuano (Vernon, NJ) didn't get a decision in his six inning start, while Sawyer Kemp (1-0) earned the win in relief for Wilkes.
Game Two: Wilkes 7, FDU 6
FDU opened the game with two runs in the top of the first – one on a sac fly by Ferrigno and one on an RBI single by Finnerty. An RBI double by Wilkes in the bottom of the first immediately cut FDU's lead in half.
Matt Nodoro (Morristown, NJ) registered his fourth home run of the season in the second to give the Devils a 3-1 edge.
