Madison, NJ (April 13) – The FDU-Florham baseball team hosted its Inaugural First Responders Appreciation Day this afternoon at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark. Prior to today's non-conference game against Manhattanville College, the Devils honored representatives from the Madison Police and Fire Department, the Florham Park Police and Fire Department, the Montgomery Police Department and the Middlesex Police Department.
Manhattanville (15-11) defeated FDU-Florham (16-11) by a 9-5 final today.
The Valiants scored one in the first and eventually went ahead by a 6-0 score through three innings. J. Silvestri registered an RBI double in the top of the first and then the Valiants used a pair of RBI singles and a two run homer by T. Mandel to extend their lead in the third.
FDU trailed 9-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth, but the Devils put a four spot on the board in the frame. With the bases loaded,
Tommy Moore (Mansfield, NJ) singled home
Dylan Hode (Manalapan, NJ),
Tyler McCulloch (Berkeley Heights, NJ) plated
Tyrus Chippendale (Middlesex, NJ) on a sacrifice fly,
Vincent Ferrigno (Marlboro, NJ) brought home
DJ Gonnelli (Berkeley Heights, NJ) on a walk and
Sean Wodell (Freehold, NJ) plated Moore on a fly out to left.
Neither team was able to score from that point on as Manhattanville took home the 9-5 non-conference win this afternoon. The top three hitters in the Valiants lineup went 9-for-14 with three RBI and five runs.
