Moore Breaks Single Season Home Run Record as Baseball Tops Stockton, 5-3

Madison, NJ (April 12) – FDU-Florham senior third baseman Tommy Moore (Mansfield, NJ) broke the single season record for home runs this afternoon as the Devils topped Stockton University, 5-3, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark.

Moore broke his own single season record for home runs today, a mark of nine which was tied with Steve Ferrante, who hit nine in 1992. With today's victory, FDU, now 16-10 on the season, has the most wins since the 2014 season. That 2014 team went 22-16, reached the MAC Freedom playoffs and the ECAC Tournament Finals.

After FDU starter Christian Capuano (Vernon, NJ), now 3-2 on the season, sat Stockton down 1-2-3 in the top of the inning, the Devils took advantage of two errors in the bottom of the opening inning and scored three – two on an RBI single by Jimmy Finnerty (Augusta, NJ) and one on an RBI single by Tyler McCulloch (Berkeley Heights, NJ).

In three innings on the mound today, Capuano faced ten batters and struck out seven including four in the second inning alone. Capuano and Jonathan Rodenhaver (Port Republic, Md.) held Stockton hitless until the top of the sixth inning when Robbie Ford lined a single up the middle.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, DJ Gonnelli (Berkeley Heights, NJ) doubled down the left field line. Moore then blasted his tenth home run of the season, breaking his own single season record, to extend FDU's lead to 5-0 midway through the game.

Moore ended his day 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run.

Stockton scored its first run in the top of the seventh as Ryan Mihlebach lined a homer over the fence in left center and added a second on a sacrifice fly by Ford. The Ospreys took advantage of an error with two outs in the eighth and plated their third run of the game.

Colby Craig (Chester, NJ) entered the ninth and earned his seventh save of the season, tying him for the most in a single season in program history with Jim DaSilva (2005) and Steve Seminerio (2010).

FDU will host Manhattanville College tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm in non-conference action at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark.
