Madison, NJ (March 29) – The FDU-Florham baseball team defeated New Jersey City University, 16-2, in non-conference action this afternoon at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark.
FDU-Florham (14-5) scored seven runs in the bottom of the opening frame on just four hits after starter
Anthony Molina (Bound Brook, NJ) shut the Gothic Knights down 1-2-3 in the top of the first. The Devils loaded the bases and worked a pair of walks with the bags full.
Vincent Ferrigno (Marlboro, NJ) tallied an RBI on a sacrifice fly,
Mark Geist (Middlesex, NJ) got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and both
Dylan Hode (Manalapan, NJ) and
DJ Gonnelli (Berkeley Heights, NJ) posted infield singles to account for the rest of FDU's runs in the inning.
The Devils added one in the third and seven more in the fourth. FDU's seven run fourth was highlighted by RBI doubles by
Matt Nodoro (Morristown, NJ), Ferrigno and Geist.
From there, with the lead at 15-1, the Devils used their bullpen effectively and got one inning of relief from five different student-athletes following a strong four inning start by Molina.
Molina (1-0) earned the win in four innings as he scattered five hits and surrendered just one earned run on the day.
With today's victory, FDU-Florham now has 14 wins, the most in a season since 2016 and the most under the direction of head coach
Jamie Quinn.
FDU will return to MAC Freedom action this weekend with a three game set with Wilkes University. The Devils will host the single nine inning game on Friday, April 1 at 3:30 before both teams travel to Pennsylvania for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 2 at 12:00 pm.
