Hackettstown, NJ (March 23) – The FDU-Florham softball team picked up two non-conference victories over Centenary University (NJ) this afternoon on the road.
The Devils (6-4) topped the Cyclones (3-10) by a 5-1 final in game one and by an 8-2 score in the nightcap.
Game One: FDU 5, Centenary 1
In the opener, the Devils were paced offensively by
Heather Priante (Howell, NJ), who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Pitcher
Ciara Hoffman (Freehold, NJ) shutdown the Cyclones and improved to 4-3 on the year with a complete game effort scattering eight hits, striking out ten and allowing an unearned run.
The game was scoreless until the fourth, when Priante came across with FDU's first run after she reached on a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an error. An RBI single by
Colleen Conway (Amityville, NY) pushed FDU's lead to 2-0.
Centenary got one back in the bottom of the fourth before a two run triple by Priante extended FDU's lead to three in the fifth.
Anna Gibbons (East Northport, NY), who singled to left and stole second, as well as
Kristen Tigar (Hazlet, NJ), who walked, both scored on Priante's triple.
Priante registered her second RBI triple in the top of the seventh to account for the 5-1 final.
Game Two: FDU 8, Centenary 2
In game two, eight of FDU's nine batters registered at least one hit highlighted by a 3-for-4, three RBI effort by
Morgan DeLoreto (Denville, NJ).
Bianca DiSanto (Colonia, NJ) was strong in the circle for the Devils as she improved to 2-1 on seven innings, five hits, two runs, and three walks.
After Centenary scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, the Devils answered with three runs in the third. An RBI double by Tigar knotted the game at 1-1 and a two run double by DeLoreto gave FDU a 3-1 edge.
Leading 4-2 in the top of the seventh, FDU used an RBI triple by Conway, an RBI single to left by DeLoreto and an RBI triple by
Kristina Pelano (Howell, NJ) to account for the 8-2 final.
The Devils will head to King's College (Pa.) for a MAC Freedom doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
