Montclair, NJ (March 2) – Sparked by seven goals by
Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ) and six by
Kylee Garcia (Branchburg, NJ), the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team rolled past Montclair State University, 20-2, in non-conference action this afternoon at Sprague Field. The Devils posted their first win over the Red Hawks since March 10, 2010 today.
Montclair State (0-2) scored the opening goal of the game 15-seconds into the first quarter before FDU-Florham (2-0) posted 20 consecutive goals. The Devils, who posted five goals in the first and eight goals in the second, scored four times on the man advantage and once playing a man down over the stretch.
First-year
Marissa Ross (Owings Mills, Md.) posted five draw controls, while defensively Garcia paced the Devils with a trio of caused turnovers and goalkeeper
Jamie Kubach (Philadelphia, Pa.) led FDU with three ground balls.
Kubach improved to 2-0 in net for the Devils with seven saves over the firs4 40 minutes of action, while Allyn Lilien took the loss with 11 saves for Montclair State.
Maddy Apap (Montgomery, NY) stopped the ball six times over the final 20 minutes for FDU in her first appearance of the season.
As a team, FDU went 17-for-20 on clearing attempts and held statistical advantages in shots (35-19), saves (13-11) and ground balls (15-8). The Devils also went 8-for-12 on free position attempts.
FDU (2-0) will host No. 5 nationally-ranked Ithaca College on Saturday, March 5 at 3:30 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
