Williamsport, Pa. (March 19) – Penn College defeated the FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team by a 15-12 final in non-conference action this afternoon at UPMC Field.
FDU (1-4) was paced by
Drew Gallagher (Shamong, NJ) who tallied four goals and four assists for eight points, while
Michael Stewart (Narbeth, Pa.) registered a hat trick of his own in today's contest. Defensively,
MacGyver Hay (Mays Landing, NJ) posted eight ground balls and caused five turnovers.
Penn College (4-4) was led by James Thatcher with four goals and one assist, while both Sam Hills and Trevor Soli both tallied hat tricks for the hosts.
Penn College scored the first two goals of the game before Stewart and Gallagher knotted the game up at 2-2 early in the opening quarter. The hosts went on a 5-1 run for a 7-3 advantaged, but once again FDU answered as three straight goals capped by a score from
Robert Nawrocki (Northfield, NJ) made the score 7-6 early in the second stanza.
FDU outscored Penn College, 3-0, in the third, but the hosts answered and outscored the Devils 5-3 in the fourth for the 15-12 win. In the final quarter both teams were able to score on the man advantage.
As a team, FDU outshot Penn College, 58-34, and went 16-for-24 on clearing attempts. The Devils also held a slim 38-37 edge in ground balls and won 20-of-30 faceoffs at the X thanks to an effort by
Trevor Arnone (Poughkeepsie, NY).
In net, Penn College keeper James Cella earned the win with 22 saves in cage, while
Dan Schlupp (Holland, Pa.) took the loss for FDU with nine stops between the pipes.
FDU will host Mount Saint Mary's (NY) on Wednesday, March 23 under the lights on Robert T. Shields Field in non-conference action in its next game.
