Baseball Completes MAC Freedom Series Sweep Over Delaware Valley

Doylestown, Pa. (March 19) – Led by a pair of home runs by senior Tommy Moore (Mansfield, NJ), the FDU-Florham baseball team completed the three game Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) series sweep against Delaware Valley University with a 13-5 win this afternoon on the road.

With his 3-for-6 effort today, Moore hit at a .727 clip for the series to go along with three home runs, nine RBI, seven runs and two walks. Tyler McCulloch (Berkeley Heights, NJ) also had a great day at the plate on Saturday as he went 4-for-5 and scored three runs.

FDU-Florham (10-3, 3-0 MAC Freedom) posted three runs in the top of the first inning as Moore homered to center and plated Tyrus Chippendale (Middlesex, NJ), who began the game with a single down the left field line. An RBI single to center by Matt Nodoro (Morristown, NJ) scored McCulloch for the 3-0 advantage over Delaware Valley (5-6, 0-3 MAC Freedom).

A two run double by DJ Gonnelli (Berkeley Heights, NJ) paired with a sacrifice fly by McCulloch highlighted FDU's four run third inning before Moore pushed the Devils out in front 10-0 with a three run shot to left in the top of the fourth. Before the fourth inning was over, an RBI single by Gonnelli and an RBI double to right by Dylan Hode (Manalapan, NJ) extended FDU's advantage to 12-0.

Delaware Valley took advantage of an FDU error and scored five times in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 12-5. Brody Donovan (South Plainfield, NJ) came on in relief and got the Devils out of the jam in the frame. An RBI double in the top of the ninth by Chase Glasspoole (Pine Bush, NY) accounted for the Devils 13th run and the 13-5 final.

Christian Capuano (Vernon, NJ) was strong on the mound for FDU as he tossed six shutout innings to improve to 2-1 this season as the graduate student punched out a career-high 11 batters and surrendered just two hits on the day. C. Holsinger took the loss on three innings, ten hits and nine earned runs.

FDU will step out of conference play with a pair of midweek non-league games this week. The Devils are scheduled to host Maritime College on Tuesday, March 22 at 3:30 pm and the Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday, March 23 at 3:30 pm at Vincent J. and Lenda F. Naimoli Ballpark.
