Naples, Fla. (March 15) – Last night in southern Florida, junior Lizzy Escudero (Bridgewater, NJ) powered the FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team to a 21-6 non-conference victory over #18/RV Stevenson University.
Escudero registered a career-high seven goals and four assists for 11 points as FDU-Florham (3-1) broke the single game record for points (34) and tied the single game marks for assists (13) and shots on goal (38). FDU received votes in this week's USA Lacrosse Magazine Division III poll.
Stevenson (2-4), which was ranked 18th in the USA Lacrosse Magazine Division III poll and received votes in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll, saw two goals apiece from both Caroline Murphy and McKenna Blick.
In addition to Escudero's career day, Kylee Garcia (Branchburg, NJ) registered five goals and two assists for seven points, while Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ) added four goals, four assists, ten draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Devils.
FDU raced out to a 5-2 lead after 15 minutes of action as Garcia notched her fourth hat trick in as many games and had four total points for the Devils in the opening quarter. FDU outscored Stevenson, 7-2, in the second for a 12-4 lead at the break.
Escudero, who capped the scoring for FDU in the first quarter, registered three goals and one assist in the second, while Walsh notched her third hat trick of the year with three goals of her own in the second.
The Devils scored 13 unanswered goals over a stretch of 25:24 that lasted well into the fourth quarter before Stevenson found the back of the net late in the game. Over that stretch Escudero potted three consecutive goals in the third, while Paige Frye (Palmyra, Pa.) registered her first goal of the season.
As a team, FDU-Florham held a 44-14 advantage in shots, a 38-10 margin in shots on goal and a 13-11 edge in ground balls. The Devils went 14-for-15 on the clear and one 21 of 29 draw controls.
In net, Jamie Kubach (Philadelphia, Pa.) made three saves for the Devils over the opening 45 minutes of play, while Sophie Shucosky stopped the ball 17 times for Stevenson.
FDU will next host Kean University in non-conference action on Wednesday, March 23 at 4:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
