Clermont, Fla. (March 14) – FDU-Florham senior pitcher
Ciara Hoffman (Freehold, NJ) spun a complete game, five hit shutout to lift the Devils to a 1-0 victory over Rutgers-Camden this afternoon in Florida.
FDU- Florham (2-1) scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the third inning.
Bianca DiSanto (Colonia, NJ) led off with a single through the right side, stole second and advanced to third on a groundout.
Kristen Tigar (Hazlet, NJ) brought DiSanto home on a single down the left field line for the 1-0 edge.
Hoffman, who scattered just five hits on the day, retired Rutgers-Camden (1-4) in order in the third and the fourth. The senior only allowed one base runner to reach in the first, second, fifth and sixth.
Rutgers-Camden threatened in the top of the seventh as Zoe Rodriguez reached on an error and Olivia Bull dropped down a bunt single. Hoffman, however, got Alexis Schauer to pop up and Alexa McNee to ground into a double play to end the game.
Hoffman improved to 2-1 for the Devils with the complete game shutout today, while Lindsey Rodzon took the loss (0-1) on six innings, five hits, one run (earned), one walk and a strikeout. DiSanto ended her day at the plate, 2-for-2 with a run for FDU, while Tigar plated her first second RBI of the season in today's game.
Today's scheduled second game against Salve Regina University was canceled and will not be made up.
The Devils have an off day tomorrow before playing a pair of games on Wednesday, March 16 in Florida. FDU is scheduled to play #12 TCNJ at 4:00 pm and Lasell University at 6:15 pm at the Hancock Park Complex.
