Madison, NJ (February 26) – The FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team scored 13 straight goals this afternoon on Elizabeth Ruth Hennessy Field to defeat Stockton University, 13-4, in the 2022 opener for both squads.
FDU (1-0) was led by
Kylee Garcia (Branchburg, NJ), who posted four goals and three assists for seven points, while
Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ) chipped in with three goals and eight draw controls for the Devils.
Alexis Ashton (Blairstown, NJ) and
Brynn Levins (Haddon Township, NJ) both scored their first collegiate goals in today's matchup with the Ospreys.
Stockton opened today's game with back-to-back goals seven minutes apart and forced FDU to call an early timeout.
Emma Ciquera (Putnam County, Conn.) scored FDU's first goal of the game with 37-seconds to play in the first off a feed by Garcia, which began a stretch of 13 unanswered goals by the Devils.
FDU scored five times in the second, including once playing a man down, and seven times in the third, including once on the man advantage and once playing a man down before Stockton found the back of the net twice in the fourth for the 13-4 final.
The Devils held statistical advantages in shots (28-22), saves (12-7), ground balls (18-15) and draw controls (15-4) over the Ospreys in today's season opener. FDU also went 18-for-22 on clearing attempts over the course of the 60 minute contest.
In her first collegiate start, FDU keeper
Jamie Kubach (Philadelphia, Pa.) made 12 saves and moved to 1-0 on the season, while Stockton keeper Jordan Hawkes made seven saves in the setback for the Ospreys.
FDU will travel to Montclair State University on Wednesday, March 2 at 4:00 pm for a non-conference matchup on Sprague Field.
