Women’s Basketball Drops Conference Matchup at Wilkes

Wilkes-Barre, Pa (December 10) – The FDU-Florham women's basketball team dropped its MAC Freedom road tilt at Wilkes, 84-20 on Saturday afternoon.

First-year guard Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ) was the teams leading scorer for the third straight game, collecting eight points along with three assists and three rebounds. First-year guard Isabella Torrado (Teaneck, NJ) notched six points and four rebounds while senior forward Whitney Shyposh (Westfield, NJ) led the team in rebounds with eight.

The Colonels started the game up 7-1 before Torrado cut into the lead with a three pointer to make it 7-4. Wilkes went on a 25-2 run after the Torrado deep ball to end the first quarter with a 32-6 lead. The Colonels kept its foot on the gas in the second quarter, shooting 55% from the floor with 11 makes on 20 attempts while holding the Devils to just five points to close out the first half with a 59-11 lead.

FDU held Wilkes to only nine points in the third quarter but could only find four points of its own. The Colonels closed out the game with a 16-5 fourth quarter for the 84-20 final.

FDU shot 9.4% from the field (5-53) with a 13.6% shot percentage from behind the arc (3-22) and finished 50% on free throws (7-14). The Devils also collected 14 points off the bench.

Wilkes made 40.5% of its shots from the floor (34-84), including a 27.3% three-point shooting percentage (11-31) and finished 62.5% from the free throw line (5-8). The Colonels amassed 47 points off the bench, 38 points from in the paint and 28 points created off turnovers.

Fairleigh Dickinson will travel to Bronx, NY for a non-conference game against Lehman on Wednesday, December 14 with tip off at 7:00 pm.
