Glenside, Pa. (November 30) – The FDU-Florham women's basketball team opened Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) with a 73-21 setback on the road to Arcadia University on Wednesday night.
FDU-Florham dropped to 0-3 overall and to 0-1 in MAC Freedom play, while Arcadia improved to 6-2 overall and to 1-0 in the league.
The Devils were led by
Isabella Torrado (Teaneck, NJ), who totaled nine points, two steal and three rebounds.
Whitney Shyposh (Westfield, NJ) registered a team-high eight rebounds to go along with a pair of assists and five points.
Abigail Rodriguez (Woodbridge, NJ) made the first points of the game for the Devils on a pair of free throws midway through the first after Arcadia opened the game on a 14-0 run. Shyposh hit a layup for FDU-Florham but the score stood at 21-4 through one and 40-7 at halftime.
FDU-Florham put together nine points in the third on a jumper by
Alison Kozik (Ellington, Conn.), five points by Torrado and a layup by Shyposh. Rordiguez capped the scoring for FDU-Florham with a pair of shots from the free throw line as the final score stood at 73-21 in favor of Arcadia after 40 minutes of play.
FDU-Florham shot 12.5-percent (7-for-56) from the floor, 4.5-percent (1-for-22) from three point range and 50.0-percent (6-for-12) from the free throw line, while Arcadia shot 42.5-percent (31-for-73) from the floor, 24.1-percent (7-for-29) from three point range and 44.4-percent (4-for-9) from the free throw line.
Arcadia scored 34 points in the paint, 20 points off FDU-Florham turnovers and 43 points off the bench.
FDU-Florham returns home on Saturday, December 3 for a MAC Freedom contest at 1:00 pm against #22/23 nationally-ranked DeSales University.
