Madison, NJ (November 27) – The FDU-Florham men's basketball team fell to Rutgers-Camden by a 62-53 final on Sunday afternoon in its final non-conference matchup of the semester. The loss puts FDU-Florham's record at 0-6 on the year, while Rutgers-Camden improved to 2-4.
FDU-Florham was led by
Michael Dabas (Middletown, NJ), who registered 16 points, six rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block in the effort.
Carson Woods (Phoenix, Ariz.) chipped in with 11 points, four boards, two assists and a pair of steals in a complete 40 minute effort. Defensively,
Brian Nichols (Roxbury, NJ) pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and posted a pair of blocks for the Devils.
Rutgers-Camden was guided by Cameron Downs, who notched a 21 point, 12 rebound double-double to go along with four steals and two assists. Jaymes Savage tallied 12 points and four rebounds in the win for the visitors.
The Devils jumped out to an 8-2 edge just 5:18 into the contest thanks to four points from Dabas and a pair of jumpers by
Matthew Johnson (Oak Ridge, NJ) and Woods. FDU-Florham led by six at 17-11 following a jumper in the paint by Woods before Rutgers-Camden ripped off a 10-3 run for a 21-20 edge with 3:54 to play in the opening half.
With the score knotted at 23-23 with just 1:27 to play prior to the break, Rutgers-Camden outscored the Devils 6-2 for a 29-25 advantage at halftime.
Rutgers-Camden maintained its lead for the entirety of the second half en route to the 62-53 win. FDU-Florham was able to cut its deficit to just two points midway through the stanza at 41-39 before a big push by Rutgers-Camden put the visitors ahead by 12 at 55-43 with just over six minutes to play.
As a team, FDU-Florham shot 34.0-percent (16-for-47) from the floor, 13.0-percent (3-for-23) from three point range and 75.0-percent (18-for-24) from the free throw line. The Devils scored 24 of their 53 points in the paint and eight points off turnovers.
Rutgers-Camden shot 41.4-percent (24-for-58) from the floor, 7.7-percent (1-for-13) from three point range and 68.4-percent (13-for-19) from the free throw line. The visitors scored 38 of their 62 points in the paint, 25 points off turnovers and 11 points off the bench.
FDU-Florham will open Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play on Wednesday, November 30 at Arcadia University with a 6:00 pm tip off time.
