Doylestown, Pa. (January 26) – Delaware Valley University outscored the FDU-Florham men's basketball team, 35-18, in the second half to pull away for a 56-42 victory over the Devils in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action on Wednesday evening.
FDU (3-15, 0-10 MAC Freedom) was led by
Aidan Newman (Gainesville, Fla.), who scored 13 points in 26 minutes off the bench. In his return to the starting lineup,
Oliver Ortman (North Caldwell, NJ) added nine points and a team-high six rebounds in tonight's effort.
Delaware Valley (10-7, 5-4 MAC Freedom) was guided by 19 points and six rebounds from Jordan Gombs, who shot at a 9-for-15 clip from the floor for the Aggies.
The Devils took an early 9-4 lead following a layup by
Miles Crystian (Red Bank, NJ) five minutes into the contest. Delaware Valley, however, worked back to eventually tie the game at 16-16 midway through the stanza. Over the final nine minutes of the first half, FDU put together a 8-5 run for a 24-21 edge at the break.
FDU led 33-32 with ten minutes to play in regulation before a layup by Ewens Lizima gave Delaware Valley a lead it would not relinquish. Down the stretch, the Aggies outscored the Devils by a 22-10 margin to account for the 56-42 final.
The Devils shot 33.3-percent (16-for-48) from the floor, 22.2-percent (4-for-18) from three point range and 50.0-percent (5-for-10) from the free throw line. FDU scored 20 of its 42 points in the paint and nine points off of Delaware Valley turnovers.
Delaware Valley shot 44.4-percent (24-for-54) From the floor, 46.2-percent (6-for-13) from behind the arc and 28.6-percent (2-for-7) from the free throw line. The Aggies scored 36 of their 56 points in the paint and 18 points off of FDU turnovers.
The Devils are scheduled to host Lycoming College on Saturday, January 29 at 3:00 pm in the Ferguson Recreation Center in MAC Freedom action.
