Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Delaware Valley Holds Off Late Run By Women's Basketball

Doylestown, Pa. (January 26) – Junior Cassidy Miller (Roxbury, NJ) produced her third double double of the season, but the FDU-Florham women's basketball team came up short on the road at Delaware Valley University, 58-53, in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action.

FDU (1-13, 1-9 MAC Freedom) rallied from what was a 23 point first half deficit and made it a four point game, but it wasn't enough as the Aggies were able to knock down seven of their eight free throws down the stretch. On top of Miller's ten point, 11 rebound double double, Kiley Drezek (Seymour, Conn.) registered a season-high 15 points to go along with six rebounds in the effort. Angela Downey (Lyndhurst, NJ) and Tamyah Jones (Dover, Del.) chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively, tonight for FDU.

Delaware Valley (5-9, 1-9 MAC Freedom) was guided by Lauren Moretti, who registered 25 points and ten rebounds on 11-for-25 shooting from the floor in 38 minutes of action. Haley Keenan added 16 points and seven rebounds for the homestanding Aggies.

Delaware Valley jumped out to a 13-4 advantage over the first eight minutes of the game and then outscored FDU-Florham 22-10 in the second quarter for its largest lead of the game at 23 points at 36-13. At the break, the Aggies were ahead 38-19.

FDU came out hot in the third quarter and outscored Delaware Valley 17-6 over the ten minute period. The Devils knocked down four shots from behind the arc and Downey, who was fouled on a shot from three point range converted all three attempts at the charity stripe as FDU cut its deficit to eight points through 30 minutes of play.

A 9-3 spurt and six straight points in the fourth quarter saw FDU pull within four points at 51-47 with 1:12 to play in regulation. The Aggies hit seven of their eight free throws with under a minute to play to hold off the late rally by the Devils. After 40 minutes of action, the score finalized at 58-53 in favor of the hosts.

FDU had their second best shooting performance of the season tonight as the Devils shot 31.7-percent (19-for-60) from the floor and 31.8-percent (7-for-22) from behind the arc. The Devils also shot a season-high 80.0-percent (8-for-10) from the free throw line. FDU produced 24 points in the paint and 15 points off of Delaware Valley turnovers.

Delaware Valley shot 37.3-percent (22-for-59) from the floor, 19.0-percent (4-for-21) from behind the arc and 83.3-percent (10-for-12) from the free throw line. The Aggies scored 26 points in the paint and 30 points off of FDU turnovers.

The Devils are scheduled to host a pair of games this weekend beginning on Saturday, January 29 at 1:00 pm when Lycoming College comes to Madison for a MAC Freedom contest. On Sunday, January 30, FDU is scheduled to play Lehman College in non-conference action at 1:00 pm.
