Jones Has Career Day for Women's Basketball in Setback to Lycoming

Madison, NJ (January 30) – The FDU-Florham women's basketball team rallied from a 14 point first half deficit and tied the game at 43-43 this afternoon against Lycoming College, but the Warriors scored nine of the final 13 points of the game to defeat the Devils 52-47 in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) action this afternoon.

FDU (1-14, 1-10 MAC Freedom) was guided by Tamyah Jones (Dover, Del.), who registered her first career double double with a career high 22 points and a career high 13 rebounds today for the Devils. Arian Coleman (Camden, NJ) chipped in with 11 points and seven boards for the hosts.
 
Lycoming (5-13, 5-5 MAC Freedom) was paced by 16 points from Mya Wetzel, while defensively Meghan Dufner and Allison Butler posted 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
 
After leading 10-7 through ten minutes of play, the Warriors built their lead to a game-high 14 points midway through the second quarter at 23-9 following a layup by Butler. Lycoming went into the break up 13 points at 28-15. 

FDU opened the third quarter on an 11-4 run that featured a pair of three point buckets from Brielle Fedo (Lake Hopatcong, NJ), one by Angela Downey (Lyndhurst, NJ) and a jumper by Jones which cut the Devils deficit to six points at 32-26 with 3:27 to play in the stanza. Lycoming ended the third with a ten point edge, 40-30.
 
A 13-3 run over the first seven minutes of the fourth knotted the game up at 43-43. The spurt featured eight points from Jones. Lycoming answered with seven straight points, a run that stretched until there were just 24 ticks left on the clock to secure the win. 
 
FDU shot 27.9-percent (19-for-68) from the floor, 17.9-percent (5-for-28) from behind the arc and 33.3-percent (4-for-12) from the free throw line, while Lycoming shot 32.1-percent (18-for-56) from the floor, 27.6-percent (8-for-29) from three point range and 57.1-percent (8-for-14) from the free throw line.
 
The Devils scored 26 of their 47 points in the paint and notched 18 points off of Lycoming turnovers.­­­ Lycoming held a slim 49-46 differential in rebounds, while FDU posted a 13-4 margin in steals.
 
FDU will host Lehman College on Wednesday, February 2 at 7:00 pm in its final non-conference regular season game of the year.
