Madison, NJ (January 15) – The FDU-Florham women's basketball team received a 12 point, 14 rebound double double from junior
Cassidy Miller (Roxbury, NJ), but fell short to Misericordia University, 62-52, in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) contest inside the Ferguson Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.
The offense for FDU-Florham (1-10, 1-6 MAC Freedom) was evenly spread out as in addition to Miller's 12 points, both
Angela Downey (Lyndhurst, NJ) and
Brielle Fedo (Lake Hopatcong, NJ) added 12 points apiece to the effort this afternoon.
Arian Coleman (Camden, NJ) played all 40 minutes of today's game against the Cougars and tallied five points, seven assists and three rebounds.
Misericordia (7-7, 3-4 MAC Freedom) was guided by Alyssa Bondi with 20 points on an 8-for-13 effort from the floor and a 4-for-7 showing from behind the arc, while Nora Tracey notched a team-high 11 rebounds.
After both teams traded baskets over the opening four minutes of action, the visitors went on a 10-3 run that was capped by a three point shot by Bondi for a 15-8 edge through one quarter. FDU trailed by ten (20-10) midway through the second and was able to cut its deficit to just two points (20-18) following an 8-0 run after a three point play by Miller. The Cougars held a 25-20 edge at the break.
Misericordia opened up its advantage to double digits in the third and led by as many as 14 at 47-33 late in the stanza following a 14-5 spurt that lasted nearly six minutes. A layup by Coleman as time expired made the score 47-35 in favor of the visitors after 30 minutes of play.
FDU scored the first five points of the fourth quarter, but Misericordia was able to maintain its double digit edge for the majority of the final stanza as the Cougars took the road win by a 62-52 final.
As a team, FDU shot 29.6-percent (16-for-54) from the floor, 30.0-percent (6-for-20) from behind the arc and 66.7-percent (14-for-21) from the free throw line. The Devils scored 20 of its 52 points in the paint and 15 points off of Misericordia turnovers. The Cougars shot 41.2-percent (21-for-51) from the floor, 32.0-percent (8-for-25) from three point range and 54.5-percent (12-for-22) from the free throw line.
Misericordia held a slim 40-37 advantage in rebounds, while both teams accounted for ten turnovers in today's matchup.
FDU will travel to Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, January 19 at 6:00 pm for another MAC Freedom contest.
