Bronxville, NY (September 2) – Led by a double-double from sophomore
Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ), who tallied 13 kills and 13 digs in her first collegiate match, the FDU-Florham volleyball team swept Sarah Lawrence College by set scores of 26-24, 25-22, 25-22 on Thursday night in New York.

First Set:
- The first set saw the score tied on seven different occasions and FDU found itself down to 24-22 late in the stanza, however the Devils ripped off four straight points to win it by a score of 26-24. FDU took advantage of two errors by the hosts and paired with kills by sophomore Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) and DeFuria to go ahead 1-0 in the team's first match of the season.
Second Set:
- In the second set, FDU and Sarah Lawrence traded leads five different with the final time coming with the Devils ahead 17-16 following a kill by Fruscione. Up by just one late in the set, 22-21, FDU scored three of the final four points of the frame taking a huge 2-0 advantage in the match. DeFuria closed the second with back-to-back kills for FDU.
Third Set:
- FDU jumped out to its biggest lead of the match at five points (9-4) early in the third after scoring five consecutive points on four errors by the hosts and another swing by DuFuria.
- The Gryphons did not give up and eventually took a five point lead at 19-14 midway through the stanza. It was, however, an 11-3 run by the Devils that secured the season-opening victory. The run that saw FDU register eight consecutive points was the difference for the visitors.
- A swing by first-year Jada Everett (Hackensack, NJ) paired by a senior Kacie Ros (Bridgewater, NJ) service ace secured the 3-0 win for FDU.
FDU-Florham heads to New Jersey City University for a tri-match on Saturday, September 4 beginning at 1:00 pm as the Devils will play Bryn Mawr and the host Gothic Knights in back-to-back matches.
