Reiter Leads Volleyball To Sweep of Centenary

Madison, NJ (September 13) – The Fairleigh Dickinson volleyball team swept its second straight opponent as the Devils blanked Centenary (NJ) on Monday evening by set scores of 25-13, 25-13, 25-9.

FDU Leaders: Rachel Reiter (9 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks), Erin Ahart (17 assists, 10 digs), Adrienne DeFuria (8 kills, 4 aces)

First Set:
  • FDU raced out to a 9-2 lead and rolled to a 25-13 win in the opening set. The Devils hit .357 with 11 kills on 28 swings. Centenary cut its deficit back to as few as five at 15-10, but with Charlotte Fruscione (Mahwah, NJ) posted back to back aces and forced the Cyclones to call a timeout. A kill by Rachel Reiter (Riverside, Calif.) paired with three errors from the visitors gave FDU the first set 25-13. 
Second Set:
  • Tied at 4-4 in the second set and with Jessica Garreffa (Chatham, NJ) serving the ball, FDU-Florham ripped off nine straight points to go ahead 13-4. That 9-0 run was sparked by three aces from Garreffa and three kills by Adrienne DeFuria (Randolph, NJ). Another kill by DeFuria gave FDU the second set, 25-13.
Third Set:
  • Reiter led the Devils with four kills on five swing in set number three, while DeFuria and Reiter both posted three service aces apiece in the final stanza. Centenary called a timeout trailing by just three at 8-5, but FDU fired off seven straight points for the 15-5 advantage. A block by Lilli Nawrotski (Flemington, NJ) and Sophia Miskulin (New Providence, NJ) secured the final point for FDU on the night with an assisted block as the Devils won it by a 25-9 final.
FDU topped Centenary in kills (35-16), aces (13-1), blocks (5-3), assists (31-16).
 
FDU returns to the court on tomorrow evening with a home match against Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) rival DeSales at 7:00 pm.
