Madison, NJ (September 11) –
Jimmy Robertson earned his first win as a head coach this afternoon as the FDU-Florham football team defeated William Paterson University, 43-17, at Wightman Stadium.
Offensively,
Anthony Caserta (Bronx, NY) passed for 234 yards and a touchdown on 20 completions, while
Nick Santavicca (Yorktown Heights, NY) ran for a pair of touchdowns and
Connor Perez (Warwick, NY) caught a touchdown pass from Caserta in the win.
Alnazir Blackman (Irvington, NJ) and
Kenny Hands (Runnemede, NJ) accounted for the rest of FDU's offensive barrage today.
First Half:
- Over the opening 30 minutes of the game, FDU raced out to a 26-10 lead. Blackman rushed the ball into the end zone from the 1-yard line on the opening drive of the game as the Devils led 6-0 after one quarter.
- Midway through the second quarter on 1st and 10, Perez caught a 42-yard pass from Caserta to extend FDU's lead to 13-3. Both teams traded touchdowns as William Paterson saw Spencer Lee throw for an 85-yard touchdown, while FDU scored on a 7-yard run by Santavicca.
- With less than a minute remaining and on the first play of William Paterson's drive following Santavicca's touchdown, Hands sacked the Pioneers quarterback, forced and fumble, scooped up the ball and ran it into the end zone for the 26-10 lead.
Second Half:
- Santavicca ran for his second touchdown of the day following a seven minute drive for the Devils midway through the third quarter. That was the only score of the third as FDU extended its lead to 33-10 through 45 minutes.
- Perez registered his second touchdown of the afternoon on the opening drive of the fourth quarter. The drive lasted nearly five minutes and was capped by a 3-yard rush by Perez.
- A 20-yard field goal by Chris DiMedio (Cornwall, NY) capped the scoring for FDU this afternoon.
FDU produced 25 first downs (six on the rush, 15 through the air) and 381 yards of total offense. The Devils also went 9-for-16 on third down, 1-for-1 on fourth down, 5-for-5 from inside the red zone and held possession of the ball for 32 minutes.
FDU is off next week but returns home on September 25 for homecoming and a game against Misericordia University as the Devils open Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play at 1:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
