Baseball Falls in DH on the Road at Wilkes

EDWARDSVILLE, PA (April 2, 2021)- FDU Baseball traveled to Wilkes University on Friday afternoon, falling in a doubleheader, 7-6 (9 inn.) and 9-0.

Game 1- 7-6, L in extra innings
First-year DJ McGuinness started on the hill for the Devils.

Junior Tommy Moore got the scoring started for FDU, launching a two-run homerun in the top of the first inning to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. After Wilkes tied it in the second at two, the Devils struck again in the fourth. This time scoring four runs thanks to a two RBI double from junior DJ Gonnelli, an RBI single from first-year Tyrus Chippendale and a SAC fly RBI from senior Nate Peacock. That was all the scoring the Devils would do in the game, as Wilkes would add one in the fifth and three in the sixth to tie it at six. The seven-inning game went to extras, with the Colonels coming away with the 7-6 victory.

McGuinness threw great for FDU, finishing the game with 5.0 innings, five hits, three earned runs and two strikeouts. Junior Tyler McCulloch and Chippendale led the way with three hits apiece for the Devils. Moore crushed his sixth homerun of the season and leads the MAC Freedom conference in that category.

Game 2- 9-0, L
Senior Joe Kastner started on the bump for FDU.

Kastner threw the ball well all game, finishing with 5.0 innings pitched, eight hits and five strikeouts. Wilkes scored runs in three of seven innings. The Devils collected eight hits in the contest, led by seniors Matt Nodoro and Michael Tufano who finished with two apiece.
