Softball Drops DH at Home versus Lycoming College

MADISON, NJ (April 14, 2021)- FDU Softball hosted Lycoming College on Wednesday afternoon, falling in a MAC Freedom doubleheader, 6-1 and 4-2.
 
Game 1- 6-1, L
Senior Kaleigh Oplinger started in the circle for the Devils.
 
Both starting pitchers kept the offenses scoreless through the first two innings of play, before the Warriors struck first in the top of the third. Lycoming scored four runs on four hits to take a 4-0 lead. In the fifth, the warriors added two more to extend the lead to six. FDU added its lone run in the bottom of the fifth off the bat of senior Taylor Tobey who delivered an RBI double to left field.
 
First-year Kristen Tigar led the Devils with two hits and a run score.
 
Game 2- 4-2, L. 9 innings
Junior Ciara Hoffman took the ball in game two for FDU. Hoffman went the distance for the Devils, collecting five strikeouts along the way in 9.0 innings pitched.
 
Lycoming started the scoring early, plating a run in the top of the first. Junior Colleen Conway knotted the score at one with a single that score Tigar on a throwing error. The Warriors took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth before FDU battled back again in the fifth, thanks to a first-year Kacie Centineo RBI single scoring Tigar. Neither team scored a run over the next three innings, before Lyco broke through in the ninth. The Warriors increased the lead to 4-2 and shut the door in the bottom of the frame to secure the victory.
 
Centineo and Conway were on fire in game two, collecting three hits apiece to lead the Devils. Tigar finished with two hits in the second game and four hits on the day.
 
Up Next
The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 17 when they travel to DeSales University for a DH starting at 2:30 pm.
