MADISON, NJ (April 10, 2021)- FDU Men's Lacrosse hosted Wilkes University at Robert T. Shield Field on Saturday afternoon, falling in a conference matchup, 9-8 in overtime.
First Quarter
Wilkes got on the board early in the contest, netting two goals in the first two minutes of the contest. Junior goalie
Dan Schlupp kept the Devils alive with four key saves. The Colonels were able to get another goal at the six-minute mark. After a Wilkes turnover, junior
MacGyver Hay netted the first goal of his collegiate career off an assist from sophomore
Robbie Nawrocki, making the score 3-1. The score would remain the same to close out the first 15 of play.
Second Quarter
Wilkes was able to net one early in the second quarter to extend their lead to 4-1. The Devils offense picked up steam and attacked. The Devils scored four unanswered goals in a two-minute span to close out the scoring for the second quarter. Senior
Drew Bukowiec scored back-to-back goals fifteen seconds apart for the Devils to get the offense going, the second one coming from sophomore
Drew Gallagher. Gallagher would net two of his own assisted by fellow sophomore
Lucas Berghahn and first year
Nicholas Perillo.
Third Quarter
Bukowiec netted his third goal of the game and extended the Devils lead to two, just six-minutes into the third quarter. Wilkes scored at the nine-minute mark to try to cut the Devils lead. Four minutes later, FDU was once again able to capitalize off a Wilkes turnover, with Nawrocki adding an unassisted goal to increase the lead. The Colonels netted two goals at the end of the third quarter to tie the game at seven all.
Fourth Quarter
The Devils offense came out hot taking three consecutive shots from Garcia and Perillo to start the fourth quarter. However, the Colonels took the lead at the 12:09 mark. The Devils would not go down without a fight. Over the next eight minutes, both teams shared shots but neither could capitalize. With just two minutes remaining in the game, senior
Tyler Garcia netted an unassisted goal to tie the game at eight all.
Overtime
The Colonels were able to net a goal at the 8:32 mark to claim the victory.

FDU had five different scorers on offense, recorded 32 shots and 23 on goal, led by Bukowiec with seven and five.
Facing Off
Sophomore
Trevor Arnone won eleven of FDU's twenty-one faceoffs, with the Devils winning the FO battle 11-10.
Ground Ballin
FDU won the ground ball battle, 25-24, including three apiece from Hay, senior
Kyle Carraher, senior
Patrick Egan, and Gallagher.

The Devils return to action on Wednesday, April 14 at 6:00 pm, when they host conference foe Delaware Valley University.
