WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 30, 2021)- FDU Softball traveled to King's University on Tuesday afternoon, falling in a MAC Freedom doubleheader, 6-3 and 6-1. With the losses, the Devils fall to 3-7 overall and 3-5 in conference games.
Game 1- 6-3, L
Junior Ciara Hoffman started in the circle for FDU.
The Devils came out hot in the top of the first inning, scoring their first run on a double off the bat of senior Nicole Casale, scoring first-year Kristen Tigar. After junior Colleem Conway scored on a passed ball, Casale came home on a wild pitch, making the score 3-0.
Hoffman didn't surrender a hit until the bottom of the third inning, after a two out infield single reached base. With the score still 3-0 Devils in the fourth, King's finally struck. The Monarchs scratched across two, cutting the deficit to one, 3-2. After both teams went scoreless in the fifth, King's got hot, scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth to grab a 6-3 advantage. They shut the door in the seventh to complete the victory.
Game 2- 6-1, L
First-year Dolly Garguilo started the game for FDU.
King's scored five of their six runs in the first inning, adding the sixth in the bottom of the second inning. The Devils scored their lone run in the sixth inning off the bat of first-year Kacie Centineo, who crushed a homerun over the right field fence. The Monarchs closed out a 6-1 victory.
The Numbers
In game one, Casale and senior Dani Sames finished with two hits apiece, with Casale collecting the teams only RBI. Conway and Centineo each finished with a hit.
In the second of the two contests, sophomore Kristina Pelano led the way with two hits and Centineo followed with the homer and RBI.
