GLENSIDE, PA (March 27, 2021)- FDU Baseball traveled to Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon for the second day of a back-to-back MAC Freedom DH versus Arcadia University, falling in both games. With the losses, the Devils now fall to 3-9 overall and in the MAC Freedom while the Knights improve to 9-3 overall and in conference play.
Game 1- 10-3, L
Senior
Christian Capuano started on the bump for FDU. He finished the game with 5.0 innings pitched, four hits, three earned runs and three strikeouts.
After three straight scoreless innings produced by Capuano and the starter for Arcadia, the Knights broke through with the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth inning. After leaving five runners on base combined in the first four innings, FDU finally capitalized on the base traffic. In the top of the fifth inning, first-year
Tyrus Chippendale led off with a double, followed by a senior
Nate Peacock single and an RBI groundout for senior
Matt Nodoro to tie the game. After Peacock advanced to third and junior Transfer
Tommy Moore intentionally walked, junior right fielder
Tyler McCulloch crushed a 2 RBI double to right center field, giving the Devils a 3-1 lead.
Arcadia responded immediately in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of a FDU throwing error to put runners on second and third with no outs. The Knights pushed three runs across in the inning to recapture the lead, 4-3. From there, Arcadia added six more runs to complete the 10-3 victory.
Peacock led the way for FDU offensively, finishing game one 3-for-4 with a run scored. Five different players collected a hit for FDU.
Game 2- 6-1, L
First year
Jonathan Rodenhaver started on the hill for the Devils. Rodenhaver threw the ball great for FDU, going 5.0 innings, giving up only one earned run and five hits.
Arcadia scratched a run across the board early in the final game of the series, taking a 1-0 lead after two innings of play. Both pitchers kept each team's offense at bay, combining to throw three straight scoreless innings from the third to the fifth. It was in the top of the sixth when the Devils got on the board. After a bad call by the umpire took a run off the board for FDU, Peacock scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at one apiece. That is as close at it got for the remainder of the game. Arcadia came out and scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and two runs in the bottom of the seventh. The bullpen for Arcadia shut the door over the final three FDU offensive innings to complete the 6-1 victory.
