MADISON, NJ (March 24, 2021)- FDU Women's Lacrosse traveled to Stevens Tech on Wednesday evening, winning a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom matchup, 15-13. With the win, the Devils improve to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, while the Ducks fall to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
First Half
FDU got the scoring started early in the contest. Sophomores Kylee Garcia and Emma Ciquera netted a pair within 20-seconds of each other to give the Devils a 2-0 advantage. Stevens responded at 24:19 and 23:12 with a pair of their own to knot the score at two. Two more Duck goals before the 20-minute mark in the first half, gave Stevens a 4-2 lead. Looking to regain momentum, FDU caused a Ducks turnover and turned it into their third of the game, the second for Ciquera. Stevens continued to press, adding another at 19:48 to increase the lead to 5-3.
After five-minutes of back-and-forth action, FDU broke through offensively. The Devils scored three straight goals to regain a 6-5 advantage, thanks to first-year Katie Walsh with two and Ciquera with her third of the game. Junior Paige Frye and Garcia collected assists on the goals. With 7:14 remaining in the half, Stevens tied the score at six, before FDU responded again with a pair of goals from Frye and Ciquera to increase the lead to 8-6. The Ducks again had an answer, scoring three straight goals to end the first half, regaining the lead, 9-8 at the break.
Second Half
FDU came out on fire to start the second 30-minutes of play, with another pair from Walsh and the first of the game from senior Aliyha Elk. Just two-minutes into the second half, FDU held an 11-9 lead. The Devils continued to attack, with Garcia adding two more to increase the lead to 13-9. Stevens didn't go down easy, netting three straight goals late in the second to cut the Devils lead to 13-12 with 12:23 remaining in the contest. FDU added two more off the sticks of Garcia and Walsh to add to the advantage, taking a15-12 lead. Stevens would add one more before the game ended, with the Devils on top, 15-13.
High Scoring
Walsh and Garcia continue to play well for FDU, scoring a combined nine goals, five for Walsh and four for Garcia. Ciquera also had a great game, adding four to her total.

Netminder
Sophomore goaltender for the Devils and reigning MAC Defensive Player of the Week, Maddy Apap, improves to 5-0 on the year, making four saves in the win.
