CENTER VALLEY, PA (March 20, 21)- FDU Baseball traveled to DeSales University on Saturday for the second day of back-to-back double headers, falling in both, 22-6 and 10-7. With the losses, the Devils fall to 2-6 overall and in the Middle Atlantic Freedom Conference. With the victories, DeSales improves to 7-1 overall and in MAC Freedom play.
Game 1
First-year Jonathan Rodenhaver started on the mound for FDU.
DeSales jumped on FDU early, scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Devils didn't go down easy however, scoring runs in four of the seven innings, with one in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth one in the sixth. Junior Tommy Moore led the way for the FDU offense, finishing the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. Senoiors Chris Ciancimino, Bobby Hefferon and Joe Moskowitz, along with junior DJ Gonnelli and sophomore Chris Kubas collected a hit in the contest. Moskowitz also finished with two RBI and a run score while Kubas and Hefferon each drove in a run apiece. Â
Game 2
Senior Christian Capuano took the ball in game two for FDU.
After senior Nate Peacock scored the game's first run in the top of the first inning off a DeSales throwing error, DSU responded in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. FDU tied it in the fourth, thanks to an RBI from Ciancimino scoring junior Tyler McCulloch. The Bulldogs responded quickly, scoring six runs in the bottom half of the frame to regain an 8-2 advantage. FDU continued to fight after DeSales increase their lead heading into the ninth. The Devils loaded the bases down 10-4 and the rally was on. Toomey reached base after knocking a single to center and Peaock followed with a fielder's choice. Senior Matt Nodoro walked and senior AJ Yurista was hit by a pitch for the Devils fifth run. After a Moore walk made it 10-6, McCulloch reached on four balls to cut the lead to 10-7. However, the rally ended there, as DeSales recorded the next three outs to secure the victory.
McCulloch had a monster game two, finishing with three hits, two runs and two RBI. Nodoro, Yurista and Toomey each collected one hit apiece.
Swinging it
Moore finished the day 4-for-7 with three runs scored and three RBI.
