Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Comes Up Short in a Battle at Eastern, 62-59.

ST. DAVID'S, PA (March 18, 2021)- FDU Women's Basketball traveled to Eastern University on Thursday evening for their final game of the 2021 season, falling in a tight contest, 63-59.
 
First Quarter
Eastern started the game on a 10-0 run, before FDU got on the board. A three-pointer from sophomore Angela Downey followed by a bucket from first-year Jade-Dee Tolentino, cut the Eagles lead to 10-5. Eastern would extend their lead to as many as eight, 15-7 with 4:45 left in the quarter, before the Devils offense got hot. FDU scored nine of the quarters final ten points thanks to six free throws from sophomore Jayda Bing and a three ball from Tolentino. After 10-minutes of play the score was tied, 16-16.
 
Second Quarter
Both teams went scoreless through the first three-minutes of the second quarter, before Eastern regained an 18-16 advantage. After a Bing basket down low tied it, the Eagles bounced back with a two of their own. Up two points with 4:30 left, Eastern scored eight straight, increasing their lead to ten, 28-18. Down the stretch, Bing hit another two, Downey knocked down a three and Eastern added four and holding a 32-23 at the break.
 
Third Quarter
The Third quarter was all Devils, outscoring the Eagles 22-10. The Devils were led by Bing who scored 11 in the quarter, Tolentino had seven, followed by senior Francesca Shipe and first-year Anissa Arteaga. After 30-minutes of play, the Devils held a 45-42 advantage.
 
Fourth Quarter
After each team exchanged buckets to begin the last quarter, Eastern grabbed the lead back at the 7:28 mark, 50-47, off a three point basket.  After Bing hit one from the line, she followed with a game tyer at 6:24, 50-50. Tolentino continued the scoring for FDU with a basket and Shipe hit her second field goal of the game off an assist from Downey. Down 54-50 with under five-minutes to play, the Eagles offense picked up steam.
 
Eastern scored four straight to tie the game at 54. After another Bing free throw, Eastern grabbed the lead on a three-pointer, 57-54. Bing went to the line again, hitting both and cutting the lead to one, 57-56. After an Eagles layup with 1:14 remaining, Downey knocked down a pair of her own from the line, chipping the lead down again. An Eastern three with 48-seconds remaining made it, 62-58. Shipe went to the line and hit one, but the buzzer sounded with Eastern winning 62-59.   
 
Lead Devil
Bing set a career high in points scored in a game with 28. She shot 8-of-17 from the field and also collected eight rebounds on the day.  
 
Double Day
Jade-Dee finished the game with 12-points and 10 rebounds. She set a new career high in boards as well as assists (1), blocks (2) and steals (4).

Playing the Minutes
Downey, Shipe, Bing, Coleman and Tolentino all finished with 27 or more minutes played.
