Williamsport, Pa. (December 11) – Lycoming College rallied from an 18 point deficit to defeat the FDU-Florham women's basketball team, 48-41, in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) matchup inside Lamade Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
FDU (1-9, 1-2 MAC Freedom) was led by
Angela Downey (Lyndhurst, NJ) who posted a team-high 15 points. Defensively,
Cassidy Miller (Roxbury, NJ) and
Jade-Dee Tolentino (West New York, NY) pulled down eight boards apiece for the Devils.
Lycoming (2-7, 1-1 MAC Freedom) received a 12 point, ten rebound double double from Allison Butler, while Cathryn Brought matched Butler's offensive output with 12 points in the game this afternoon.
The Devils scored the first 14 points of the game and led 14-3 after ten minutes of play after Emily Zoscin posted a three pointer with ten seconds to play in the opening quarter. FDU's 14-0 game opening run was sparked by six points from Downey, four from
Madison Daly (Suffern, NY) and two from both
Arian Coleman (Camden, NJ) and
Kiley Drezek (Seymour, Conn.).
With 2:36 to play in the first half, FDU gained its largest lead of the game at 18 points (27-9) following a three pointer by Tolentino. The Warriors scored the final four points of the second quarter as the Devils held a 27-11 lead at the break.
FDU led 32-15 with 6:52 left in the third quarter following a three point play by
Tamyah Jones (Dover, Del.), but Lycoming ripped off a 17-3 run over the next five minutes sparked by eight points from Butler to cut its deficit to just three at 35-32. Jones hit two shots from the charity stripe to end the quarter and maintain FDU's edge heading into the final ten minutes of the game.
Lycoming tied the game at 39-39 with 5:02 to play and took its first lead of the game (40-39) following a free throw by Brought. After both teams traded baskets, the Warriors hit five of six free throws down the stretch to secure the win 48-41.
FDU shot 29.6-percent from the floor (16-for-54), 25.0-percent from three point range (6-for-24) and 42.9-percent from the free throw line (3-for-7). The Devils scored 15 points off of Lycoming turnovers and received 11 points off the bench.
The Devils will host Trinity College (Conn.) on Wednesday, December 29 at 3:00 pm in their final game of the 2021 calendar year and in their second to last non-conference game of the 2021-22 season.
