Madison, NJ (November 2) – The FDU-Florham field hockey team has earned the third seed in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Tournament and will travel to Misericordia University for a semifinal matchup tomorrow, Wednesday, November 3 at 7:00 pm on Mangelsdorf Field.

FDU enters the MAC Freedom Field Hockey as the third seed following a regular season that saw the Devils win ten games, including five games in the MAC. FDU won a tiebreaker in the standings with Arcadia University thanks to a 3-0 win over the Knights back on October 20.
The Devils are making their 19th appearance in the MAC Freedom Tournament and second under the direction of
head coach Maura Johnston. Since the 2014 season, FDU is 8-3 in MAC Freedom Tournament action and is 5-1 in the semifinal round during that stretch. The Devils and the Cougars met in the 2019 MAC Freedom Semifinals on Robert T. Shields Field and FDU came away with the 1-0 win thanks to a goal in the 22nd minute by
Emilee Vizzuso (Montville, NJ).
This season, the Devils are offensively led by
Haleigh Flukey (Ocean City, NJ), who has a team best 13 goals and 31 points to go along with five assists. Flukey is tied for first in the MAC Freedom in goals and is third in the league in points. Vizzuso has scored the second most goals on the team with eight, while
Sydney Moskal (Washington, NJ) leads the Devils and the MAC Freedom in assists with nine. In goal,
Megan March (Glen Burnie, Md.), who has been named MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week three times this season, has a record of 7-6 to go along with 75 saves, a save percentage of .781 and a goals against average of 1.70 in 14 games this fall.
Misericordia enters the MAC Freedom Field Hockey Tournament as the second seed following a 12-6 (6-1 MAC Freedom) regular season. The Cougars are making the fifth appearance in the MAC Freedom Tournament since 2013 have posted a record of 5-3 in those matchups. FDU and Misericordia met in the championship game in both 2014 and 2015 with the team's splitting those contests.
The Cougars have spread their offense, pretty evenly among their top four goal scorers as Anna Effinger, Mikayla Cavenas, Madison Posivak and Lily Metress have accounted for 27 of Misericordia's 42 goals in 2021. Effinger is the team leader with nine goals and 24 points. In net, Olivia Gretz has played all 1086 minutes for the Cougars and has posted eight shutouts to go along with 55 saves, a save percentage of .679 and a goals against average of 1.44.
FDU and Misericordia met earlier this season on Mangelsdorf Field and the Cougars came away with a 3-1 win. Posivak scored two of the three goals for Misericordia, while FDU's goal came from
Rachel McHale (Montville, NJ) and was assisted by Moskal.
Since the 2009 season, FDU field hockey is 11-4 against Misericordia and prior to the loss earlier this season, the Devils had won five straight matchups dating back to 2016.
The winner of Wednesday's MAC Freedom semifinal game will move on to the MAC Freedom championship on Saturday, November 6 against either No. 1 seed Stevens Institute of Technology (13-3, 6-1) or No. 4 seed Arcadia University (9-10, 5-2). The Ducks and Knights will also play in the semifinal round tomorrow evening in Hoboken, NJ. Time and location for the championship game will be announced following Wednesday's semifinal games.
