Madison, NJ (November 10) – The FDU-Florham men's soccer broke a number of single team records tonight as the Devils closed their 2021 season with a 9-1 non-conference win over the City College of New York (CCNY) on Robert T. Shields Field.
As a team, FDU broke the single game records for points, goals, assists and shots in tonight's matchup. The Devils posted 27 points, nine goals, nine assists and 38 shots in the win. The previous single game programs records were 21 points (last set on 9/26/18), eight goals (10/2/06), seven assists (last set on 9/26/18) and 36 shots (9/13/09).
The win was also the ninth of the season for the Devils marking the most wins in a single season since the 2015 campaign when FDU went 9-8-1. Nine wins are also fourth most in a single season in program history.
FDU scored just 47 seconds into the game and four more times before the first half horn sounded as
Vincenzo Russo (Stewartsville, NJ) got the scoring started off a corner kick by
Ricky La Stella (Bridgewater, NJ). La Stella ended his day with two goals and one assist and scored FDU's second goal of the game in the tenth minute.
Before the first half came to a close,
Mateo Ladino (Montville, NJ),
Sam Allington (London, England) and
Oliver Trujillo (Bridgewater, NJ) all scored for the Devils.
In the second half, FDU received two goals from
Brandon Garcia (Manalapan, NJ), one from La Stella and one from
Sebastian Cannizzo (Buenos Aires, Argentina) as the Devils finished the game up by a score of 9-1.
As a team, FDU outshot CCNY 38-3 (21-2 on goal) and held a 15-4 advantage in corner kicks. All three of FDU's goalkeepers got into tonight's game as
Cameron Paventi (Lambertville, NJ),
Dylon Leitzel (Jefferson Township, NJ) and
Tiernan Grey (Staten Island, NY) split time in net.
Trujillo and La Stella closed the season tying for the team lead with 19 points. Trujillo posted eight goals and three assists, while La Stella tallied seven goals and five assists on the year. As a team, FDU posted 42 goals, the most the Devils have produced since the 2013 campaign.
