Madison, NJ (October 23) – The FDU-Florham women's soccer team held Misericordia University scoreless in the first half but eventually fell to the No. 7/7 nationally-ranked Cougars, 2-0, in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) matchup on Robert T. Shields Field. The Cougars came into today's match ranked in the initial NCAA Division III Region IV rankings.

FDU held Misericordia, a team which averages 3.60 goals per game without a goal for nearly 51 minutes in today's contest before the Cougars broke through for the 1-0 edge in the second half. A pair of one touch passes from Michaela Fasolino and Madison Brdaric found the foot of Kaylee Sturans, who tallied her 12th goal of the season 50:41 into the match.
 
The Devils had a couple of really good chances to tie the match up in the second half as Amanda Croce (Wayne, NJ) and Tatiana Nieto (Clark, NJ) both had their shots saved by Alexis Benedetto. Misericordia added an insurance goal in the 80th minute as Brdaric notched her second assist of the game on a feed to Kate Field for the 2-0 advantage. 
 
Misericordia outshot FDU 20-8 (10-5 on goal), while FDU held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. FDU keeper Erica Blackburn (Marlboro, NJ) made eight saves over 90 minutes for the Devils, while Benedetto stopped the ball five times for the Cougars.
 
FDU will wrap up MAC Freedom play on Tuesday, October 26 with a match against Stevens Institute of Technology at 7:00 pm on Robert T. Shields Field.
