Women's Soccer Comes From Behind to Earn 2-2 Double OT Draw at Wilkes

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (October 2) – The FDU-Florham women's soccer team came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 double OT draw at Wilkes University in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) opener for both squads this afternoon.

Records: FDU (8-3-1, 0-0-1 MAC Freedom); Wilkes (3-5-1, 0-0-1 MAC Freedom)
Location: Bruggeworth Field
FDU Goal Scorers: Ashleigh Frankel (1), Jenna Conanan (2)

Wilkes scored the first goal of the match in the 36th minute as Emily Bidelspach ripped an unassisted strike into the back of the net for the early lead. FDU, however, answered with less than a minute to play in the opening half as Ashleigh Frankel (Branchburg, NJ) scored her first goal of the season and the first goal of her career.

Wilkes tried to clear the ball but on the attempt the ball fell straight to the feet of Amanda Martinho (Bridgewater, NJ), who blasted the ball about 40 yards to Frankel. Frankel shot the ball off the fingertips of the Wilkes keeper as the match stood at 1-1 into halftime.

The hosts struck for their second lead of the game as Bidelspach registered her second of the match off a long pass from Erica Freese in the 72nd minute.

With less than three minutes to play in regulation, FDU was awarded a free kick from about 30 yards out. Tatiana Nieto (Clark, NJ) blasted the ball into the defensive wall and it deflected directly out to the feet of Jenna Conanan (Hazlet, NJ). Conanan took one step and shot the ball into the left side of the net, tying the game at 2-2.

FDU out shot Wilkes, 6-5, in the two overtime sessions but neither team could score as the match stood at 2-2 after 110 minutes of action.

Over the 110 minute contest, Wilkes held a 25-17 advantage in shots (9-9 on goal) and a slim 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

FDU keeper Ashley Paulino (Linden, NJ) made four saves in the first half, while Erica Blackburn (Marlboro, NJ) made three saves for the Devils over the final 65 minutes of action.

The Devils will host King's College (Pa.) on Wednesday, October 6 at 7:00 pm in another MAC Freedom matchup.
