MADISON, N.J. (February 15, 2020) - The FDU Men's Lacrosse team hit the field for the first time in the 2020 season as they hosted Muhlenberg College on Saturday afternoon. The Devils fell to the Muhles by a score of 15-4 as they open the season at 0-1. Muhlenberg, who also opened its 2020 season, jumps to 1-0.
Muhlenberg scored the first three goals of the game to own the early lead. The Devils 2019 goals leader Senior John Belanger (36) gave the Devils its first score of the 2020 season, as he connected on an FDU man-up attempt, off the assist from junior Drew Bukowiec. To finish the first period, senior John Guido turned a ground ball into the Devils' second goal of the game to put them down 5-2.
Muhlenberg added the games only three goals in the second period to go up 8-2 on the Devils. Senior goalie Adam Reifer was key to the Devils' defensive efforts as he saved four of the Muhles' attempts in the period. In period number three, Muhlenberg shutout the Devils once more, as they ended the 15-minutes leading by a score of 11-2.
In the fourth period, the Devils added back-to-back scores to swing its goal total to four. With 9:17 remaining on the game clock, freshman Sean O'Donoghue recorded his first collegiate score, as he capitalized off of an assist by sophomore Macgyver Hay. The Devils added its final goal of the game when sophomore Zane Johnston scored an unassisted goal. As the final horn sounded, Muhlenberg held on for the victory.
First Time Out
In his first time donning an FDU uniform, O'Donogue was a perfect 1-for-1 in shots, as they made good of his lone scoring attempt. Devils face-off man freshman Trevor Arnone won seven face-offs for the Devils in his first collegiate action.
Making Saves
The senior Reifer, tallied 10 saves on the day for FDU.
By The Numbers
The Devils team combined for 14 turnovers, which beats the 15 that Muhlenberg had. The Devils added 37 total shots on the afternoon, which is one less than the Muhles, who had 38. The Devils totaled six caused turnovers on the day. Guido and Hay both added two apiece.
