WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (September 4, 2019) – The FDU volleyball team earned their second victory of the season with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-20 triumph over Penn College Tuesday.
The Devils improved to 2-1 on the season, while Penn dropped to 0-4. Junior Jessica Garreffa led the way with 11 kills, while senior Nathalia Padron had 10.
The visiting Devils found themselves in a back-and-forth battle in the start of the first set until a Penn service error began a 5-0 run which extended the FDU lead to 16-7. The Devils used two kills apiece from Padron and junior Liz Moise to complete the opening set victory, 25-13.
The Devils kept the momentum going into the second set, as they jumped out to a quick 3-0 advantage coming from two service aces and a Penn attack error. Failing to relinquish the lead for the entirety of the set, the Devils went on a 9-2 surge to close out the game 25-17. The run began with a Moise kill from sophomore Kacie Ros. With the Devils up 21-16, Ros continued her sharing ways as she assisted on a kill from Garreffa to put the Devils three points away from the set victory. Following a pair of errors from Penn, Ros cemented the win with a service ace.
Up two sets to none, the Devils did not let up as Garreffa began the third set with a kill off another Ros assist. Ros remained active as she contributed 12 more helpers in the stanza with five setups to Padron, four to Garreffa, two to Moise, as well as one assist to sophomore Ashley Dellolio. With the Devils at match-point, junior Rebecca Morse found Garreffa as she executed the kill to seal the 3-0 win.
