MAHWAH, N.J. (September 28, 2019) - The FDU men's tennis team opened the 2019 season by competing at the Ramapo Invitational Saturday.
FDU competed in five different flights, winning the consolation bracket at four levels.
In the "A" flight, rookie
Jonathan Carasso rebounded for a first-round setback to win the consolation semifinal 8-4. He met senior
Rich Bennett in the final, as Bennett picked up an 8-1 win in the semifinal round as well. Carasso notched an 8-7 triumph to claim the "A" flight consolation round win.
Freshman
Zach Puccia was victorious in the "B" flight consolation bracket. Despite falling 8-4 in the opening round, Puccia won 8-2 in the semis before beating his opponent from Drew 8-6. Fellow rookie
Jacob Mostoller also was in the "B" flight, dropping two matches. Senior
Chris Fiorenza and sophomore
JT Murray competed in the "C" flight, with Murray falling 8-7 and 8-5 in his two games. Fiorenza rebounded with two wins, including an 8-5 win in the consolation finals.
It was an all Devils consolation final in the "D" flight, with rookie
Kaya Esgun facing junior
Tyler Schacher. Both had won their semifinal match 8-1 before Esgun notched an 8-2 win in the finals. Senior
Brendon Urbano and
CJ Milano each had wins at the "E" flight while freshman
Andrew Schulz won a pair of matches to close out the day.
