Football Looks to Return to Win Column Saturday Against Widener

MADISON, N.J. (September 20, 2019) – The FDU football team looks to return to its winning ways when they face Widener University tomorrow afternoon.

GAME INFO
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Elizabeth J. Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium in Chester, Pa.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Devils were edged by William Paterson University 28-23 last Friday evening. Junior wide receiver Rory Sullivan hauled in a career-high 15 passes for 152 yards in the setback. With the loss, FDU falls to 1-1 on the season.
 
LAST MEETING
The Pride might hold a 20-3 series lead over the Devils, but FDU came out with a win in their previous meeting last year. On a rainy Friday night, FDU notched a 21-17 victory with Alnazir Blackman picking up 60 yards on the ground.
 
WIDENER REPORT
Widener sits at 1-1 on the year after dropping a tight 43-42 contest to Lycoming last week. Quarterback Sean McGaughey has thrown for 719 yards and eight touchdowns. The Pride opened the season with a 38-28 triumph over Rowan.
 
MAGIC MAN
Senior Nick Maciejewski has converted all 10 extra points this season and is 1-for-1 on field goals. The senior also has punted 10 times for 392 yards with a long of 52 yards. He crossed over the 100 point mark for his career in the opener and was tabbed as the Middle Atlantic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after going 8-for-8 on extra points against USMMA.
 
PASS IT THIS WAY
Junior quarterback Anthony Caserta passed for a pair of touchdowns and 320 yards in the loss to William Paterson. For the season, he is 69-for-106 with nine touchdowns and just one interception for 782 yards.
 
DEE-FENSE
Sophomore Jake Swindasz and junior Tyre Williams are tied for the team-lead with 19 tackles. Swindasz recorded 11 tackles with a fumble recovery against William Paterson, while Williams had seven. Senior Mihajlo Simakoski delivered a big hit and forced a fumble as well.
 
MUFFED IT
The Devils special teams came up with a turnover Friday night, as the Pioneers returner fumbled a Maciejewski punt. Rookie Isaiah Blakely fell on it, setting the Devils up with excellent field position.
