SCRANTON, Pa. (September 14, 2019) – The FDU women's soccer team took to the road on Saturday afternoon and bested Marywood University, 2-1.
The Devils improve to 5-0-1 on the season, as Marywood falls to 1-3.
FDU wasted little time to attack the Pacers, as junior
Erica Martins, and seniors
Erika Pita and
Nicolette Roberts all fired off shots-on-goal in the first eight minutes of play. Marywood was able to get on the board first, as they took the 1-0 lead in the 18th minute.
After a few unsuccessful attempts, Pita gave the Devils their first score of the game in the 44th minute, as she connected off a pass from junior
Amanda Croce. Pita's goal came off a thrown ball, in which she passed by the 18 yard-line and lofted the attempt over the Marywood goalie for the equalizer.
Beginning the second half all knotted at 1-1, FDU kept attacking, as attempts by junior
Stephanie Corea and junior
Nathalia Gallo fell just short. Not long later, the Devils found their first lead of the game, as Martins one-timed a cross from junior
Madeline Finnegan. Now up 2-1, the Devils were tasked with playing keep away for the remainder of the contest.
Trailing late in the game, the Pacers were vying to get one final attempt off. Their one attempt would come in the 77th minute as junior goalkeeper
Ashley Paulino denied the Lions attempt to tie. The Devils pressure on the Marywood offense stifled any chance for late-game heroics, as FDU held on to capture the 2-1 win.
