MAHWAH, N.J. (September 11, 2019) – The FDU field hockey team defeated Ramapo College 2-1 on Wednesday as they improved their record to 4-1 on the season.
The Devils came out of the gate determined to score, as they fired off three shots-on-goal in the first 10 minutes of action that quarter paved the way for what was to come. Several minutes later, sophomore Haleigh Flukey made her mark on the game as she was successful off of a pass from junior Riley Mullan. Up 1-0, the Devils continued to keep the Roadrunners off of the board for the remainder of the first quarter.
Just over two minutes into the second period, junior Megan March made a big stop off a penalty corner. 2:48 later, the Devils capitalized on a penalty corner of their own. Sophomore Sydney Moskal inserted to senior Jessica Pietracatella, who fired home a shot for her fourth tally of the season. In the 23rd minute, FDU tried adding to the lead, but the Ramapo goalkeeper blocked shot attempts by senior Ariana Wexler and Flukey. March made three saves later in the period to send FDU into the break with a 2-0 lead.
FDU held a slim 10-8 edge in shots and a 7-6 advantage in penalty corners at the halftime break.
The Roadrunners picked up steam in the third stanza taking all five shot attempts. With just over six minutes left, the hosts trimmed the lead in half. Mariah Tovar put home a Maggie Farrell pass and cut the gap to 2-1 entering the fourth and final frame.
March came up big early in the fourth, making four stops over the opening eight minutes to keep the lead. Ramapo earned a trio of penalty corners as the clock inched towards zero, but were unable to push the tying goal across. FDU had a pair of corner attempts with just over a minute left to help run the clock out.

- March made a career-best 14 saves in the victory. Her previous best came last Wednesday in a setback against nationally-ranked Franklin & Marshall College.
- Moskal recorded her first career assist on the Pietracatella tally.
- Pietracatella has now matched her season-best total in goals. Last season, she recorded four all season.
