Belanger Notches 100th Career Goal in Setback Against Wilkes

EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. (April 27, 2019) – Junior John Belanger recorded his 100th career goal, but the FDU-Florham men's lacrosse team was topped by Wilkes University 13-5 Saturday afternoon.

FDU falls to 7-7 on the season and 3-4 within the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom. Wilkes improves to 9-7, 3-4 in the conference.

The Colonels' John Wink opened the scoring, tallying the first four goals of the game before junior John Guido fed classmate Pat Stewart to get the Devils on board. Wilkes would add the next two markers in the second, but the Devils had a chance in between goals. With 8:19 left in the period, senior Michael Warg rifled a shot that rang off of the post. Wilkes entered halftime with the 6-1 lead, but junior Adam Reifer made four saves to keep the game within reach.

FDU made a run in the third stanza, tallying three goals within 3:08. Sophomore Drew Bukowiec notched the first goal as Belanger recorded an assist. 59 seconds later, Belanger potted an unassisted marker to reach the century mark, while Warg capped the run off with 6:23 left in the third. The Devils would be unable to get any closer, as the hosts closed out the quarter with the final four goals. The first two tallies came a mere seven seconds apart. The Colonels began the fourth with three consecutive goals before Belanger netted a man-up goal with 49 seconds left in the game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
•    Reifer made 12 saves, his 10th game of 10 or more saves.
•    Belanger took a team-high 12 shots, scoring twice while adding an assist.
•    Bukowiec, along with seniors Michael Contreras and Michael Adragna each picked up three ground balls.
