MADISON, N.J. (March 27, 2019) – The FDU-Florham women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-9 decision against Kean University Wednesday afternoon.
FDU falls to 3-4, while Kean improves to 2-6.
The Devils found themselves down early when the Cougars scored a goal 61 seconds into the game. FDU responded with the next two goals to give them a 2-1 lead with 21:57 left in the first half. Seniors
Kathleen Petrucelli and
Caroline Pape each netted tallies off free position attempts. The Devils held the lead for two minutes before the Cougars rattled off a 4-0 run that lasted for over 10 minutes.
Senior
Caitlyn Damon took advantage of a man-up situation when she received a pass from Pape and found the back of the net to make it 5-3. With 6:51 left in the half Damon netted her second goal of the afternoon to bring the Devils to within one. However, Kean ended the first half on a 2-0 rally to make it 7-4 heading into the half.
Senior
Madison Wood had an attempt to start the second half get blocked by the Cougar goalie, but the shot was able to trickle past the Kean goalkeeper to make the score 7-5 with 26:51 left in regulation. The Cougars responded with a goal two minutes later to extend their lead to three.
Wood and Damon each netted a goal over the next six minutes but Kean answered back with one of their own in between to make it 9-7. Unfortunately, this was as close as the Devils would get as Kean embarked on a 6-2 scoring run to close out the game. Damon and Petrucelli each had markers for the Devils down the stretch.
